Thursday Thirteen #54 Self-Reflection Edition

Greetings, Kittens!

Recently a few people from my past have cropped back up and it got me to thinking about all of those who won't have that opportunity for one reason or another. Some people who played significant parts in my life for good or ill will never know where things stand now. So in honor of all that has gone before to shape me into the person I am, I present you the 13 Things I Should Have Said.

Enjoy.

13 Things I Should Have Said

1. I'm sorry
2. I forgive you
3. I understand
4. It doesn't have to be this way
5. You didn't know any better
6. You had no right
7. You matter
8. It's not too late
9. It's okay
10. This will pass
11. I see you
12. I hear you
13. I could love you

That is rather sad. I hope you are able to say those things to whomever you need to.

Very touching

The things we should have said often resonate much stronger than the things we do/did say. All the more proof that we should do our best to tell the people in our lives how much they mean to us, when we have the opportunity.

I didn't mean to make anyone sad, but I see how it could come off that way. I may never get to say those things, but wanting to is its own step forward.

It's the very reason that "I love you" is not on the list. I've never failed to share that with anyone because I know the value of it. But there are some people, some instances, where I was too young to know any better and it makes me wonder.

Don't say #13. It almost always backfires.

Who among us hasn't had regrets? They are part of what shapes our lives and who we are. I hope the people resurfacing in your life is a good thing!

Sometimes hindsight is much clearer!

I'm sorry it's backfired for you. It was the honest answer at the time and one that...would have made a difference.

I'm actually rather lucky, I don't have regrets in general. I bear the single, universal, "if I knew then what I know now", and beyond that, the details are irrelevant.

The people resurfacing are a wonderful thing!

That is the advantage of having wisdom and additional information when looking back. Maturity alone changes so much.

We all look back wishing we had said those things at some point in time. Its sad, wisdom is wasted, if we knew then what we know now, things would be so much different. By the time we learn, much of the time, its too late. Great T13!

I met with an elder friend yesterday who told me that she wants a announcement at her funeral that she apologizes to anyone she has ever hurt. I'm going to be thinking about your list and see what lines come to mind for me. http://looseleafnotes.com

I don't think wisdom is wasted, I think wisdom is earned. If we didn't go through all of the times that teach us, we'd never learn anything. I do agree that if we aren't continually reflecting back on what we've learned and what we wish to learn, knowledge comes to late and opportunities pass us by.

I think that's a great announcement to make. If you've missed anyone in life and you go before them, it's a chance for them to hear it finally.

I think these are all things we should say more often.
