Thursday Thirteen #69 Television Edition

Greetings, Kittens!

I finished edits on one project, I'm under deadline for a second and under revision for a third. That's allowed a lot of television to stack up. So here are 13 Shows We Need To Clear Off The DVR.

Enjoy.

1. How Earth Changed History.  This is a great show on National Geograph that examines how the elements shaped the earth as we know it. I hate the title just as I hate "How Weather Changed History". Unless tornados can move back in time, it didn't change history, it merely shaped it.

2. Supernatural.  Okay, technically I have the entire season 6 on the DVR and I watched it all, but still, it's there and likes to be acknowledged.

3. Nikita.  I'm still torn on how I feel about Nikita, which is why it's still on the DVR. I love that a Woman of Color is heading a show in a kick-ass role and I have a major couple crush on Nikita and Michael/ Maggie Q and Shane West. That said, I'm not as invested as I wish I was.

4. Breakout Kings.  This one surprised me, but I really do like it. I've managed to miss announcement on whether or not it's coming back, so don't share.

5. Glee.  Yes, yes, I know, how did I miss this? The answer, skillfully. I was out of town and we just haven't gotten around to it. I need to be in a particular mood for Glee and I haven't been feeling it. By next Thursday, I'm sure it'll be seen.

6. Game of Thrones.  This is another mood based show. Considering the depth of the material they had to work with, this is an incredible adaptation. But having read the books and knowing what's coming, I just can't get myself to watch right now. The next time I'm feeling gritty and depressing, I'll marathon them and deal with the inevitable.

7. Teen Wolf.  Love this show! Stunned to do so, but love this one.

8. Sanctuary.  This was skipped because I prefer watching 2 to 3 at a time, so it works well when I'm under deadline to bank these.

9. In Plain Sight.  The partial inspiration for my PsiCorps Chronicles, I love the dynamic between Mary and Marshall and I can't wait to catch up on this soon.

10. White Collar.  Peter and Neal. Need I saw more?

11. Covert Affairs. Auggie and Annie. Piper Perabo is so cute and Christopher Gorham is a longterm crush back to Jake2.0, put them together in a show with real chemistry and I'm a fan!

12. Flashpoint.  I don't even know how I found this Canadian gem, but I'm so thrilled I did. We just marathoned the last three or four of these and it was a beautiful thing. It's also, in part, responsible for my PsiCorps Chronicles. I just love close law enforcement relationships and happily took it to a whole new level in PsiCorps. Mmm....the thoughts. *grin*

13. The Rachel Maddow Show.  Yes, I watch a news show. In fact, the DVR regularly holds 4.5 hrs of news shows a day from GoodMorning America onward. I record them because I'm usually asleep or busy when they're on and then in the evening I fast-forward through the repetiton, catching the highlights important to me and watching how particular stories have developed over the course of the day.

So there you have it, 13 of the well more than 13 things camping on my DVR. This fall I think I might dedicate a month to television. Doing 13 at a pop, I think it would take at least four T13's to cover all the things I watch. *grin* I guess we'll see.

Happy Thursday!

I have been watching Game of Thrones each week. I haven't read the books so I am new to the story and don't know what is coming. It's a big, vast story.

It's a wonderfully vast story, and they've done a magnificent job. I've just been avoiding the dark feel of it and what I know is coming, but I can't wait to catch up with it.

Glee and Game of Thrones live on my DVR as well. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for the return visit. They're two great shows and couldn't b more different, but variety is everything. :)

I love love love "Covert Affairs" and "Sanctuary". I usually have to catch them on Hulu!
Great list.

Ooops! That's me up above. LOL!!!

Thanks for coming back to let me know! *grin*

I don't know about Covert Affairs, but Sanctuary is also available In Demand on Comcast and Direct TV I think, if that helps. :)

Rachel Maddow is amazingly intelligent.

Have a great day!

I have the biggest Geek-Crush on Rachel Maddow! She manages to bring intelligence and wit to her stories as well as exude sincerity. Her dedication made me passionate again about politics after spending a very long time merely tired of it all. *Happy Sigh*

I love Nikita, especially the end of the season. Looking forward to season 2. Supernatural's the only other one on the list I watch.

Another SPN fan, love it!

I watch a few of those. :)

I agree that Flashpoint is an excellent show. Apparently they filmed recently at my church's hall. I love that unlike other shows/movies, they don't hide the fact that Toronto is the setting. I wouldn't bet money on it, but I'm almost positive I saw the actor who plays Sam on the subway. (I didn't want to stare too much.)

I also watch Supernatural, Glee, Breakout Kings, and Teen Wolf. I was very pleasantly surprised with Teen Wolf and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Isn't Teen Wolf a wonderful surprise? I still can't believe how engaging and apt it is. I'm so glad we give all paranormal shows a try, because I would have hated to miss out.

So many shows I've only ever heard about.

Hey, if you want a crash coarse in television, I'm definitely one of the folks to hang out with! I'll guide you through them all. *wink*

The only one of these I've ever watched is In Plain Sight. Man I miss having cable during the summer--seems like all the best shows during those months are on USA. *Whimper*

[identity profile] xakara.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, {{{Anti-Cable Withdrawal Vibes}}}! USA shows them online and Hulu has a few, you should try to catch up that way if possible! Good Luck!

(Anonymous) 2011-06-16 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never seen any of those. We only get about six channels and besides watching the nightly news and Entertainment Tonight, I have very few favorites.

[identity profile] xakara.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen entertainment tonight in a while. E!Online sucked me in, so there hasn't been a reason to go elsewhere. *grin*

Thanks for letting me know! :)

Yay TV post! :)

Nikita, imo, got better and better. The mytharc and characters got more complex and developed. Also, the relationship between Nikita and Michael heats up!

Ooooo, Breakout Kings hooked me in, too. I really want a cross-over with them and In Plain Sight for some reason. Add in Justified and all of my favorite US Marshall shows could be smooshed together, although I don't Justified fitting in as well. I feel like Raylan would just lean quietly against a wall and silently judge the rest of them for being so silly. heh

[identity profile] xakara.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
If you tell me it got better, then I'll watch the second half of the season with high hopes. I really want to like it the way I knew I could.

I only got to see a few episodes of Justified and I know exactly what you mean about leaning against the wall quietly judging!

Ooo, a cross-over between Breakout Kings and Chase would have been beautiful....sigh, I want Chase back.

Hugs,

~X

[identity profile] sophy.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
YES to Chase!!! OMG. So much fury/sadness over that cancellation. :(

Why weren't more people watching that WHY?!?!? *sigh*

[identity profile] xakara.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly? Chase suffered due to it's time slot and promotion. NBC couldn't compete in the Monday 9pm block and they put a new show there and gave it hype, but didn't improve it's timeslot when it started to live up to the hype. Instead the let it languish, rather than bump it to find it's audience.

Chase...they did you wrong....

[identity profile] tatianacaldwell.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't even heard of half of these shows. The only one on the list that I watch is Supernatural. Eventually I will give Glee a go too. It sounds right up my alley but I can't afford to allow myself to get hooked on yet another show just yet!

[identity profile] xakara.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad I shared, now you know they're out there when you're ready for a new adventure! :)

I watch extremely little television. i jsut can't seem to fit in my schedule. But I thought Breakout Kings looked really interesting, and maybe teen wolf too. But i don't own a dvr. Again, since i'd seldom use it it seems like an expense I can do without. Someday I'll get things on dvd adn watch gthem.

[identity profile] xakara.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
My reasoning comes from the other direction. I have little time to watch television on television's schedule, so I DVR is worth the extra to make sure I get it all in. For me, the right show have all of the creative re-energizing of reading but with less time committment, so I can do it more often. That makes the DVR a standard in our house, but netflix is rapidly becoming a friend!

I'm on the computer so much that I don't watch much TV these days, and don't have cable. My daughter used to watch Supernatural a lot. I think its because of the cute guys. *wink*

Fortunately, your computer works just as well. Most stations broadcast their shows online after airing, and all the great fandom bases are active online. You're in the perfect position to indulge! :)

I only know a couple of these shows - Supernatural and Glee. Sometimes shows take a while to get down here.

If any of these, or others I name in later T13's make it, tell me what you think! :)

My daughter turned me onto Glee. I can't believe I am hooked after all I'd heard about it. lol
I'm not a big TV person. I never miss So You Think You Can Dance, Candice Tells All (designer from Toronto), American/Canadian Idol.
If you knew me in person, you'd be very surprised I like these shows lol
Happy T13!

I watch a ton of scripted television and zero prime time reality television. If it's about real people and events and not on Discovery, FoodNetwork, HGTV, NatGeo or History/International, it's not a reality show I've likely seen. So we all have our things where we bloom. *grin*
