Happy Thursday, Kittens!

As October is my favorite month and Halloween my favorite holiday, I've decided that each TT with have a preternatural/supernatural theme this month. Yes, I know, I'm preternaturally inclined all year round, but I have an excuse for the next four weeks and plan to make the most of it. This Thursday is thirteen preternaturals and my favorites among them from books, movie, and television.

Enjoy.

13 Preternatural Character or Portrayals I Love

1. Shapeshifter ~ Jason ~ The Anita Blake Series by Laurell K. Hamilton. I've loved Jason since his introduction and have wanted him to find a place in the scheme of things that left him fulfilled and valued. The fact that the next book is centered on Jason left me quite happy and anxious to see what direction the werewolf grows in given the proper focus.

2. Vampire ~ David ~ The Lost Boys. David, played by Kiefer Sutherland was the villian, yes, but he was still all that and a bad of blood in my book, so I have to give this spot to him.

3. Ghost ~ Bob ~ Sci-Fi Channels The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. I have to clarify that it was through the show that Bob became my favorite ghost character. I just loved the way Terence Mann carried the Bob character and made me both compassionate toward him and suspicious of him as far as his ulitimate motives.

4. Wizard ~ Sirius Black ~ The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowlings. I don't even know what to say about Sirius, I'm still recovering if truth be told... Shifting my attention slightly, I will say that Gary Oldman's portrayal of Sirius was my favorite performance of his since Dracula.

5. Witch ~ Rachel Morgan ~ The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison. This was the first series I read where witches were distinctly different from humans on a genetic level. Rachel has her plays issues and I want to reach out and shake her until my arm gets tired at times, but that's not uncommon with modern urban fantasy novels. I love her enough to keep coming back just like with any friendship. *grin*

6. Djinn ~ Rahel ~ The Weather Warden Series by Rachel Caine. I loved David and I loved Jonathan, (and I loved the idea of David and Jonathan but that was totally in my head), but Rahel was the most kick-ass Djinn in the series. I love her, she doesn't fall under my Djinn crushes but she was my favorite without a doubt.

7. Angel ~ Simon ~ The Prophecy. I have to say that Eric Stolz playing Simon, was definitely my first angelic crush. Not my last by any means, but my first and thus a special one that endures. Simon's grace and strength resonates through the entire movie despite only being in the first third of the film.

8. Demon ~ Lucifer ~ The Prophecy. Played by Viggo Mortensen, the part is short and comes right at the end of the movie, but he is forever my favorite portrayal of the Morning Star.

9. Pixie ~ Jenks ~ The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison. Fierce, loyal, handsome and deadly, you can't beat that combination, even in a man small enough to sit on your shoulder. (He becomes six feet tall through a shape change spell for a time in one of the books which leads to all sorts of thoughts, I tell ya. )

10. Sidhe ~ Keenan, The Summer King ~ Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. If you haven't read this, you need to rush off and do so. With the hosts of Fae available to readers, I have many favorites but it was easy to give settle on Keenan, the wounded Summer King held back from the true glory of his power by his jealous mother The Winter Queen. Rush off and become acquainted with the world and the wonderful Melissa Marr asap.

11. Gargoyle ~ Nathan Cross ~ Carved in Stone, book 1 of the Gargoyle Protector series by Vickie Taylor. They're just aren't enough gargoyle stories out there, and just as I was looking to write my own, I come across Vickie Taylor's Carved in Stone and Flesh and Stone. The origin story was unique and I liked it despite how different our concepts were. The only downside to the Gargoyle Protector series is that there's no book 3 to enjoy yet.

12. Demi-god ~ Perseus ~ Clash of the Titans. The height of B-Movie goodness, I've loved this movie since childhood and will watch it to this day with glee. My Harry Hamlin crush didn't last as long as my love of the movie, but some things just aren't meant to be.

13. Psychic ~ Johnny Smith ~ The Dead Zone. It would be rough having a friend or lover you couldn't touch without him seeing everything about you, but I'd get used to it to hang out with Johnny. I love the special effects on the show and the strength with which the character's played by Anthony Michael Hall

Heh, well, Book-Bob could hardly be a favorite ghost, since he's not a ghost--only TV-Bob is. ;-)

I love Vickie Taylor's Gargoyles--I hope we haven't seen the last of them!

You're the first person I've heard mention Kim Harrison. I've only read her first book and have been meaning to pick up the second. She really has created a different world, but that's the fun of paranormal--seeing how authors can constantly take a vampire, werewolf or other species and come up with a new way to write about them.

Terrific TT.

If you're interested in Sci Fi at all, I'm doing a Sci Fi Octoberfest this month. MY TT is on 13 reasons to join our Sci Fi Octoberfest. Come see.

I can't figure out how to post my name on Live Journal, so I'm going to see if it takes under anonymous----Gabriella Hewitt

I can see why you wre surprised. As I could have done 13 vampires I love, every week for all of October, I have to rotate those fanged wonders that have my heart so they all get some time.

The Lost Boys was due, and as far as I have favored villans, David is definitely among them, so it was his turn. Image (http://photobucket.com)

I want my book III! I will be forced to start up a fan campaign to drown her in emails should no book three be forthcoming.

Good to know that I have someone else to rally to the cause. *grin*

I sorry it didn't take your ID, I don't know why it's not being cooperative.

Glad to see another Kim Harrison fan. I really love the world she's built and it stands out as uniquely hers every time I read.

And you're quite right, the joy of reading paranormals is seeing the new and varied ways authors take the familiar and make it new. :)

Looking forward to checking out Octoberfest.

Happy TT, X!!!

I LOOOOOOVED the Lost Boys. Probably saw it ten times, and that was before HBO ran it into the ground. I'd still watch it today, in fact, if it was on somewhere.

Yes to Kim Harrison and Rachel Caine, too. I've got to start the Dresden series -- but have you seen how many books I've got ahead of it? Ugh!

Happy TT!! See ya soon--

Kiefer is a perfect reason to love vampires.

I know for a fact that it was Kiefer's David, that allowed me to enjoy Stephen Dorff's Deacon Frost and led me to the development of some of my own villans who are still hot. LOL

I completely understand having the Dresden Files buried under your TBR pile. It's buried under mine as well, I have a good ten books ahead of it. I only have the short story and television series to go on.

I've got some dedicated reading to go through to get to it, but I don't know that I'll be able to do any until January or later, so here's hoping for the best.

Seeya soon, Susan.

Does Captain Jack from Torchwood count? Nah, he's probably sci-fi. But I lust for him.

Too bad they didn't renew the contract for the Dresden Files. I loved that show. Oh yeah, I remember Viggo as the Devil in that movie. And what sexy devil he made. *winks* Great TT!

Well I'd have to go with Spike as my favorite vampire ;)

I'd also add favorite succubus: Georgina in Richelle Mead's Succubus Blues.

Great list though. I really liked the first Harrison book but just haven't been back to pick up the others.

Sigh
