Taking the Scenic Route to Bed
Oct. 29th, 2007 09:07 amHappy Monday Y'all!
I'm feeling rather upbeat and alert this fine morning and although I've been up for the last 19 hours after getting less than four hours of sleep, I'm considering taking the scenic route to bed via a movie at 1:30. With travel time that'll put me at about 27 hrs up, which if you knew how bad it could get you'd see the upside of only 27 hrs without sleep.
Why would I consider staying up? Well let's just say I went to work listening to Counting Crows and came home listening to Tool. Those of you familiar with the bands have some idea of how drastically my mood changed. For those of you unfamiliar, let me help you out.
Must go off and think of reasonable sounding explanations for why I should just stay up and worry about sleep when we get home. I'll swing by later and let you know if it worked.
Just in case I'll amp the music back down and see if that helps me with the more logical choice of sleeping now and catching a movie on Wednesday.
Til later Y'all.

Edit Update: 8:20 pm Central; the insomnia won. We saw 30 Days of Night and now I'm home and should get to head to bed in about two hours.

To further illuminate you, allow me to provide the lyrics to Aenima with the relevent text in bold:
Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this
bullshit
three ring
circus
sideshow
of Freaks here in this
hopeless fucking
hole we call LA
The only way to fix it
is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time.
Any fucking day.
Learn to swim,
I'll see you down in Arizona bay.
Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.
It's a bullshit
three ring
circus
sideshow
of freaks here
in this hopeless
fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it
is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time.
Any fucking day.
Learn to swim,
I'll see you down in Arizona bay.
Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.
Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will
cuz I sure could use a vacation from this
Silly shit,
stupid shit...
One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.
Learn to swim. Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round
to put it back the way it ought to be.
Learn to swim.
Fuck L Ron Hubbard
and Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.
Learn to swim.
Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies
and Fuck your short memory.
Learn to swim.
Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.
Learn to swim.
Cuz I'm praying for rain
and I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.
Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.
I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.
I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.
Now you have some idea of where I was when I left work. The day ended well and I had a great time talking to a couple of folks before I left, but there were some people I just wanted to call completely out of their names for behaving with fewer manners than my five-year-old goddessdaughter.
Yet over all it was a good day, and the other Tool songs have pumped me up so I'm feeling rather upbeat. And since I'm feeling all awake, there's the temptation not to fight for sleep and instead treat my day as if I'm obligated to be up and so have to push through until I'm done. I will definitely go to bed today, just not necessary now.
Of course My Sweetie would be required to agree and that's not guaranteed. He's been acting as the sleep police when the fatigue has impaired my judgement and second, fourth and eigth winds have kicked in and made the world seem all technicolor possibility.
