Character Crushes.

Okay. That's done. Now onto the discussion of Character Crushes. 

Just as like it sounds, a character crush is one you have on the characters of television shows, movies, and even books. Sometimes the crushes in visual medium extend to the actor but its not always necessary nor is it automatic. 

Perfect example, I have a crush on Sawyer from LOST. Josh Holloway is okay, I'm sure he's very nice, but I haven't seen him in enough things, or long enough as a likeable Sawyer to have developed a crush on him. 

In contrast, I'm all about both Michael Shanks and his character of Dr. Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG1. So sometimes it carries over and other times, not so much. 

I'll talk about character crushes in full and provide pictures another time. (Character Crush of the Week anyone?). But right now I want to talk specifically about literary crushes. 

I love being able to tune in every week or pop in a DVD to see a crush I have in action. But there is something very intimate about having a book in my hands and watching the life of a crush unfold across the page. 

One of my first crushes was Lestat de Lioncourt, and strangely enough, my crush began in Interview with the Vampire which was supposed to highlight Louis. It deepened with The Vampire Lestat and came to a nice conclusion with Queen of the Damned. I didn't need to read more and it is not safely where it needs to be, forever preserved in my head. 

He was my first, but not my last vampire crush, throwing the door open wide to Romance and Blood long before the publishing industry put them together in urban fantasy. 

I'll try sticking to some current favorites rather than going through them all.

Asher & Jean-Claude, Damian, and a few others ~ Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton

Henry Fitzroy ~ The Blood Books by Tanya Huff (And the television version on Blood Ties, I lucked out)

Charles Austra ~ The Austra Vampire Series by Elaine Bergstrom (okay, so I reached back for that one but I couldn't help it.)

Acheron ~ The Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon

I was just in a vampire mood today but I'll get to other character crushes and back to tv's and movies in another post. Well, another series of posts because I have a lot. It's just the poly in me. ;)

I have the biggest crush on David, let me tell you. It only grew when Rachel said she picture him as Michael Shanks. *Mental swoon over triple crushdom*

I also have a crush on Lewis in the Weather Warden series as well.

I have SO MANY crushes on so many levels that I had to start with vampires just to narrow it done. lol

I found out while reading her lj on some other topic entirely where Michael came up. I was so happy because that's who I had in mind too. Having it confirmed for me was great.

He's who I have in mind for my character of Thaddeus in Bloodsprite, so I'm particulary attached to Mr. Shanks on so many levels. LOL

The moment I read it, I was sure Denver would be pleased too.

And can I say, despite how I felt about him, having the visual of Nathan Fillion makes Denver very forgiveable. :)

Shallow? Perhaps. I think it's more a bleeding over of my Nathan/Mal crush forcing me to be indulgent. ;)

Let's see if I can come up with a couple myself. I know who my character crushes are on TV - Sawyer (LOST), Mal Reynolds (Firefly), Alex Tully (Drive), Jim Profit (Profit), and John Crichton (Farscape).

Books - let me think.
Okay, I guess I have a little crush on Denver too. After all I did create him.

Niko Leandros in Nightlife and Moonshine. I like Cal too, but Niko is just so deadly.

Harry Dresden - gods I love Harry. Long dark hair, dark side he tries to keep under control. Oh yea, he's magic.

Otori Takea from the Tales of the Otori by Lian Hearn. Ninja, samurai and magic, can't go wrong there.

Dracula - the Saberhagen version. Dark, snarky and so amused by stupid humans.

I hope to agree about Niko too but I just bought the books and haven't had time to read them yet.

Harry Dresden - Definitely.

I've like Dracula in a few versions I've read, but having never read the original for comparison I've had to back off of him as a literary crush and keep him on the archetype level of things to be fair.

You all jumped ahead of me to television and movies, but that's okay. I limited myself to vampires and books solely so that I wouldn't still be typing out my different crushes. LOL

You'll have to come and weigh in again with your TV crushes, I'm doing those next, either today or Wednesday.

May I say, ALL of your TV crushes are on my list. So glad to find a kindred spirit. :D

As for the books, I'm only familiar with the Kenyon and Hamilton books. I was very close to asking about Edward, but then I rmembered my crush on Spike from Buffy/Angel and recalled I had absolutely no room to question whatsoever! So more love for Edward. *grin*

Me... jump ahead... NEVER! Sorry and I'll definitely repost. You say character crush and it's Batman all the way. Then the dream fog clears and some others showed up. When you mentioned Henry from Blood Ties it started my t.v. crushes since I haven't read the books yet.

When you get a chance check out Moon Called and Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs. I think you'll agree with the crush. As for Edward it's a crush I just can't fight. Obsidian Butterfly is my favorite Anita Blake book.

I've got Moon Called and Blood Bound on my TBR pile and I'm almost to it. I've had to leave off of reading published material to write, research and read critiquing material that I'm hoping will result in publication. I've been lucky in coming across some really great writers trying to get their names and stories out there. :)

I'll make sure to do an update as soon as I read them.
