From Said To One, To Said To All...
Nov. 10th, 2007 07:46 pm Evening Kittens,
I was just leaving a comment to a friend that needed a bit of a pep talk to calm her fears about her pursuits in publishing. I realized that I wanted to share it here with the rest of you who are either not yet fortunate enough to have friended the lovely
rhonawestbrook, or who just aren't nosy enough to read all the comments to other folks' journals. It is relevent not only to writers but to anyone seeking their best and afriad to fail as they try. I took out the direct references to Rhona and left the rest for all of you to carry with you as you progress foward in whatever is calling to your.

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,
but that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.
And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.
~Nelson Mandela
We only fear failing in the eyes of others because it means we had the audacity to try. We had the audacity to seek our highest potential and we know others who fear their potential will judge us for it.
Don't worry about others and their fear of their own greatness. They will judge you by that light but it is meaningless because they live in the dark.
Rejection is not the path to doubt, but the path to questions. Could you have done better with the effort you turned out to the world? If the answer is "yes", then you have been given the gift of knowing better so that you can do better. If the answer is "no", then you've been given the gift of greater confidence in your own work and that confidence will shine through as you go forward.
It took me a while to get that view of things and to keep it, but it is a viewpoint that makes this journey a learning experience from right out of the gate, and worth every stumble.
Bask in every success no matter how "small", and let the rest come as it will, taking every lesson in the spirit it was meant. That's how you can enjoy the insanity of audacity and come out the other side with the blessings.

Date: 2007-11-11 02:11 am (UTC)And know that I have no doubt we'll both get to a place where we're meeting up at conventions and talking about projects, and celebrating our places on the bestsellers list. So we'll get to 'know' each other elsewhere too!

Date: 2007-11-11 03:08 am (UTC)I think that's why it's hard to know what to say sometimes when you're down about stuff.
Anyway. (and I seem to be in an anyway mood)
When I was reading that I could feel a grin spreading across my face cuz you are so much of your characters. Or your characters are so much of you.. you know what I mean. Aset, Eon, Luken, Ny, Gunn, etc. (and OK you know the cast so I'll stop there) ...counseling so well when a person is troubled. It's a magickal thing that you have in that respect.

Date: 2007-11-11 03:38 am (UTC)Fortunately though, you know it's never truly lost, only temporarily misplaced. And that's often due to exhaustion, hormones, and bloodsugar, so chemical rather than spiritual despair.
Hopefully that makes it at least a little easier when those moments take me.
As for the cast...thank you, deeply.
