Crush of the Week

 Hello Lovelies, 

Thanks for the well wishes yesterday. Still not feeling top notch yet so I'll jump right into it all. Thanks to being unduly influenced by watching shows yesterday, thiis Friday's Crush of the Week is Taye Diggs.

I first came across Taye in his film debut as Winston Shakespeare in the 1998 film How Stella Got Her Groove Back. It didn't matter how Angela Bassett who played Stella lost her groove, I just hardily approved of Taye as a way to get it back. The shower scene between them is one of my favorite love scenes on film.  

He had no less than nine projects after Stella, but it wasn't until the 2002 cult film Equilibrium that I saw Taye again in something that captured my attention long term and made his name one I wouldn't forget. He played Grammaton Cleric Andrew Brant and was among the unapologetic bad guys of the film, making the fact he stayed in my mind a feat all its own. 

He had a small part as the Bandleader in Chicago, (In the stage revival he played Gere's film part of Billy Flynn), and went on to guest star in The West Wing before being allowed to carry a television series in the single seasoned Kevin Hill. After playing Benny in 2005's Rent, (a role he originally played on stage in 196), he would return to television on Will & Grace as Will's love interest James. Months later another he'd be asked to carry another short lived series Day Break where a police detective was trapped living the same day as he tried to clear himself of a murder charge. With the current slew of paranormal/supernatural shows about Day Break was apparently ahead of its time or doomed by being on the wrong channel. (Okay, ABC has me a little bitter from past cancellations. I'll get over it. Eventually.)

Straight off the cancellation of Day Break, Taye was pitched the idea of Dr. Sam Bennet on Grey's Anatomy as set up for the spin-off Private Practice. The ensemble cast and setting of the Oceanside Wellness Centre has allowed Taye to shine as an intelligent, emotionally questioning, medical success, going through the wilderness of relationships and self-sustained happiness. It's left him as more than an actor who looks lovely when he takes his shirt off. 

That said, dayum, he looked good in the last episode when he took his shirt off and threw his ex-wife Naomi down on the conference room table!

Gods. I was kind of obsessed with Stella for a while cuz there was both him and Angela looking so fine....I can't count how many times I watched that movie.

And you left out the movie Go. One of my faves cuz it's such a romp.

I've never seen Go which is why it didn't get counted. I'll have to check it out sometime down the road.

But that shower scene in Stella....
