Why yes, seriously!

5.4 earthquake rocks Illinois; also felt in Indiana

The Associated Press

A 5.4 earthquake early Friday rocked people awake as far away as Indiana, surprising residents unaccustomed to such a large Midwest temblor.

The quake just before 4:37 a.m. was centered 6 miles from West Salem, Ill., and 66 miles from Evansville, Ind. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

"It shook our house where it woke me up," said David Behm of Philo, 10 miles south of Champaign. "Windows were rattling, and you could hear it. The house was shaking inches. For people in central Illinois, this is a big deal. It's not like California."

The quake also shook tall buildings in downtown Indianapolis, about 160 miles northeast of the epicenter.

Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Todd Ringle in Evansville said there were no immediate reports of damage.

Felt it. Yeah, I had just got up and the house shook. Thought at first it was a big wind. Frakking freaked the cats and me out.

We've had them before...

We don't usually feel them but folks called into my local news station with reports that coincide. It was an ambitious little tremor. But as I said, at least my day can only get more normal from here. *grin*

The news said at that magnitude there'll definitely be structural damage. I just hope it's as minor as possible and everyone with the worst of it is physically safe and financially insured.

Sorry it was close enough to frighten you so bad. Glad you're okay. :)

I just posted my own entry using your same story. There isn't anything else online about it yet that I could find. And I need to be off to work shortly anyway.

Least I know now what it was.

Yikes! Totally scary! I've felt several and you never get over the fact that suddenly the earth is shaking.

So freakin' weird. My basset hound (who never, never barks) scared the crap outta me at 2:36am PST by letting out several 'yowlps'(her idea of a bark). She was lying in her bed and did it 4-5 times. I actually got up to see and she just laid there. Then yowlped some more. My hollering at her woke up hubs and he commented she never makes noise at all. I said maybe we are going to have an earthquake. When I got up this morning I heard about the quake. Now we are a long, long way from IL, but the time is EXACTLY on?!?!
