Justice Long Coming....
Dec. 16th, 2008 07:50 pmI had many a ramble on my mind this evening after a full and busy day at work, but the event that touched me the most today outranked my astounishment at public schools being cancelled with less than an active inch of snow on the ground this morning, or the endless chatter from the locals about a snowfall and weather front that the Midwest and Northeast would pay to have over the mess they're dealing with now.
No, tonight's moment was much bigger than all that, if less personal as it has nothing at all to do with me.
America's Most Wanted is a cultural icon with references made to the show and its host spanning generations these last two, going on three decades. It's so much ingrained in pop reference that it is often forgotten that the show was born out of a great tragedy.
John Walsh, AMW host, lost his six-year-old son Adam Walsh in 1981. A man arrested on another charge confessed to the murder and then recanted. He died in prison with the case still open. Today, John and his wife were able to finally relieved of the torture brought on by not knowing. The case was officially closed with the individual who confessed firmly established as the monster who killed their child. John said it wasn't about closure, but about justice.
I hope that he and his family find a measure of both.
