xakara: (Chocolate Cake)
[personal profile] xakara

Greetings, Kittens!

I ventured out for errands and came back home intent on using the last of my excess energy to bake a cinnamon swirl cake with lemon cream cheese frosting. I was all set and then it turned out that I didn't have enough powdered sugar to make the frosting, (yes, I make my own frosting because it's the only way I'll eat it), so the cake had to wait. It's been on my mind all night and as a result you get to visually indulge in yummy images of 13 Cakes.

Factoid: The term cupcake did not originally mean the miniature delights we think of now. It was used to distinguish the difference between a cake whose ingredients were measured out with measuring cups and one whose ingredients were measured out by weight. Most modern cakes are cupcakes. *grin*

Enjoy.

I've never had carrot cake and I don't know anyone who likes it so I can try theirs. I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually. :)

Homemade frosting is vital! I haven't eaten frosting since I was a child. Some 98% of the time I'd just scrape it off, but this year as I got back into baking, I also made my own butter cream and cream cheese frostings and it was beautiful! Being able to control the exact amount of sugar is priceless!

I hope my taste comes back so I can order a cake with my name on it and eat it nom nom nom lol

-thanks for visiting my site ^_^
have a happy day

Great list! How can I not want cake after seeing all of these delicious creations?
My mother always made her own frosting and I definitely prefer home made to store bought.
Also never knew that about the cupcake thanks for sharing.

I grew up with homemade frosting and glazes which was great, but it made me very picky when dealing with store bought cakes and those made by other people. Eventually I defaulted to pound cakes and my birthday cakes came with very specific instructions on using half the sugar that would go for others. I like being able to taste the cake and find the harmony between them. Something lost the moment you get to the over sugared concoctions called frostin on store shelves.

I guess I have an opinion, huh? *grin*

Interesting factoid about cupcakes! I didn't know that, I'll have to try and commit it to memory, into my trivia banks. But anyway ... these cakes look soooooo delicious, I would gladly be the taste tester for every single one of them! :)
