Thursday Thirteen 14th Edition
Nov. 15th, 2007 02:53 amHello Kittens,
I was going to forgo doing Thursday Thirteen this week because I'm not feeling well. What I am feeling, however, is responsible; which would make it irresponsible to skip it when I'm awake anyway and perfectly capable of typing,(if not quite capable of thinking as clearly as usual). With the decision made to push ahead I was left trying to figure out exactly what to do a TT on. Being unwell brought all sorts of pouty things to mind, so I sat and intentionally refocused to what's been good this week. Nearly all of it was publishing related. It got me to thinking about what's unfolded lately, and so from that focus, (fuzzy as it may be), I bring you; 13 Things That Made My Upcoming Novella Release Real.
Enjoy.

13 Reality Moments For My Upcoming Release
1. I got my first cover mock-up for SHIFTING PASSIONS.
2. My name was wrong on the mock-up. (Yes, this was the most real moment of everything)
3. Got the final mock up and everything is a go.
4. I got my official blurb which should be up soon at Samhain Publishing.
5. I got my official release date. (At least it looked all official on the blurb form. I haven't asked if I could share yet so I'll refrain just in case)
6. I was invited to begin an author thread for the novella at Books and Chat that I can use not just for promo but for feedback to help future stories.
7. I was reminded by three reviewers that I thought were just being nice at the time, that they're expecting review copies in the next 6 to 8 weeks and are excited about getting to read it.
8. I was invited to guest blog at not one, not two, but six different places right before my release comes out, and only one actually reviews books. The rest were just folks who read my blog here and at Beyond the Veil regularly and wanted to pimp my release for the sheer joy of helping out.
9. I got an email from someone who has read my Free Reads and Excerpts and just wanted me to know that can't wait to read SHIFTING PASSIONS when it comes out in February(ish). That was one of the sweetest things to hear from a perfect stranger.
10. I have an author page up with an interview, bio, and everything on Queer Girl Talk which is gorgeous and just blew me away to have. But that wasn't this week, this week the number of hits on my website jumped and a great many came from the url of that author page. It left me fully understanding for the first time that what I put out there is really being read by others and having an impact.
11. You all were incredibly wonderful last week in your response to my prologue. It helped reassure me that there is indeed an audience for the things that go through my head and the way they come out on paper.
12. I'm going to be an author quote on someone else's book. Me. Really. I got asked before this week, but I only clicked with the reality of it yesterday when looking at my cover mock-up. My novella releases before their novel so I qualify to be one of their author blurb choices. Me. I just...Me. For real. Can you tell I'm newly stunned?
13. I realized this week that at my current rate of writing
, I'll be done with The Forgiven and ready for beta readers just as the novella is coming out. That means that by the time it's beta read
, critiqued
and ready to be queried
, I'll have sales with my name on them as a record of how well received my writing is. That was both thrilling and terrifying to comprehend.

Date: 2007-11-16 04:15 am (UTC)I'm glad I did it too. It made me go over all my emails and little notes to see what had happened and what I was happy about.
Still tired though, but I'll make it through. :)

Date: 2007-11-16 04:25 am (UTC)Thank you so much. I've talked about it off and on, but the original sale was way back in February.
Now it's just a matter of having it really out there and seeing what comes of it. :)

Date: 2007-11-16 05:04 am (UTC)There's that time between contract and edit that makes it almost seem like you hallucinated the whole thing and it never really happened. Now all of a sudden it most definitely happened and now I'm expected to do other things because it happened and will be available to everyone soon.
The next real moment will be FLEs whern there's nothing else I can do to tweak what other eyes are going to see. *Headshake* Can't think that far ahead though. All about right now for the moment.
Thanks for coming by Carrie :)

Date: 2007-11-16 05:12 am (UTC)It is surreal, but it's surrealism balanced with the weight of responsibility because there are decisions to be made. The duality almost makes it more real if that makes sense. :)
