All the Thinks You Can Think...
Feb. 14th, 2007 09:25 pmThe things you leave behind.
On a random search I found a post I made back in July of '01. It's still valid and proves that my rambles, though...rambly, still stand the test of time.
At what point in our moderness did we lose the capacity for myth and originality? There is such arguement about historical accuracy of religious belief, and disagreement over the validaty of reimaging myth that we have nothing as modern humanity to call our own. Perhaps if there wasn't some sort of burning desire for acceptance through *authenticity*, folks wouldn't feel they had to lie and make up historical facts.
Yes, I believe we should all learn where we come from, and for those of you not in America, learn the past of the land you live on. However, in learning of the Old Ways we forget we are not of that time.
If we really want to practice the Old Ways, why do we not do what they did? Where is the interpretation of our Age through our God(desses)s? Where are the myths of the techno-age? We look for what we inherited from our Ancestors, but what of US do we pass on to our Decendents? I hear that we are changing the face of worship today by embracing the Old Way, but Seven Generations from now will they look back find us devoid of our Own spiritual mark?
Where is Matrix, Goddess of Cyberspace? Where is Satillix, Trixter God, Disrupter of Satellite pictures, and all things electrical?
What of Unitee, Multiracial Goddess of North America, daughter of Cherocie and Yorun, born from the rape of Old Spider by the Lord God Almighty and the rape of Yemaya by the Lord God Almighty respectively?
Why do we not leave flowers at the feet of Our Lady Of Liberty, patron Goddess of Freedom and Immigration who stands guarding New York, Her Torch of Enlightenment held high towards the heavens?
What of Communique, Goddess of Email, Digital Phones, and PDA's?
NASAA, God of Space Travel and Exploration?
Genome, Goddess of Scientific and Medical Research?
And what about Money who fought and killed the god Barter to become the patron of Goods and Service Exchange?
Where do we find Our Own faces in the faces of our God(desse)s? It's acceptable to Honor the Deities of people who talked to Sprites and thought the Wind had a name, but any attempt to name the Spirits of our current age is scoffed at or taken as a joke.
"Don't you dare reinterpret that myth to some feminist slant!! You'll lose it trueness and purpose!" It's purpose was to tell the truth of it's time in story form. To tell the story of how things came to be as they were in that time. The new image would say how things are in This time.
Should the new replace the old? No! But it should stand beside it for those who come later. And What of new myths? If I tell someone of the stories the spirits have whispered to me, I'm told I can't just make stuff up. WHAT!!! Where do folks think we got our myths if not from the meditations, dreams, and interpretations of our Ancestor Storytellers? Why am I less worthy to hear the voice of Spirit tell It's tale?
For those of you who believe the God(desses)s are separate, what do you think They make of these New, Nameless Entities that have such power in our daily lives but no Honor?
For those of you who believe in Aspects of a Universal Divine, Do you think IT feels ignored that IT'S newer Aspects garner no reverence from us?
Yes, we have novels and movies but is that enough? Can we really get by on 90 minute(or 200pg) bite-sized nuggets of only the barest sincerity, packaged for the masses and left as our only testimony to the Future, of what we felt today?
Such a sad thought to think so. Perhaps I'll say a word to Prozac, god of happiness.
